On November 7th at 13.00, the click day is launched to win one of the 15,000 euro vouchers made available by the European Commission in the WIFI4EU call for tenders for individual municipalities or groups of municipalities in Europe to install public and free wifi networks. Participation is until 17 November at 17.00.
The WIFI4EU initiative has a budget of 120 million euros until 2020 and will promote the installation of free wi-fi devices for citizens and visitors in public spaces such as parks, squares, public buildings, libraries, museums and centers health care throughout Europe.
The procedure to participate in the call is simple, in fact, just register on the dedicated portal (www.wifi4eu.eu) and request a WIFI4EU voucher online, worth € 15,000 for the installation of a wi-fi hot spot. Municipalities that wish to apply for the voucher, but are not yet registered, have time to do so until the publication of the notice on November 7th.
The Commission will select the projects based on the order in which the requests are received. The first 2800 municipalities that will participate in the call will receive a WIFI4EU voucher, however each EU Member State will be guaranteed at least 15 vouchers. Over the next two years, another three WIFI4EU calls will be published every six months.
WIFI4EU will finance the equipment and installation costs (Internet access points), while the beneficiary organization will pay for connectivity (Internet subscription) and equipment maintenance for at least 3 years. The WiFi4EU and WIFI.Italia.it initiatives provide for synergies enshrined in specific cooperation agreements between the EU and Italy to maximize the spread of WiFi connectivity in public places.
