Priority to earthquake zones.
The Minister of Economic Development and Labor and of Social Policies as Vice President of the Council of Ministers Luigi Di Maio has signed a ministerial decree to promote the diffusion of the Wi Fi network in Italy for the three-year period 2019-2021, giving priority to the geographical areas of the territories of the Regions affected by the 2016 earthquake.
This plan is earmarked for 8 million euros for the development of stage 2 of the "wifi.italia.it" project.
The 138 Municipalities of Abruzzo, Marche, Umbria and Lazio will have a total infrastructure of 560 Hot Spots (4 per Municipality), an outdoor part (squares, gardens, meeting places) others in indoor environments (libraries, public meeting centers , museums, etc.).
The decree is expected to produce over 3600 Hot Spots for other 1895 Municipalities under 1000 inhabitants and around 6000 Hot Spots for 1572 Municipalities with a number of inhabitants between 1000 and 2000.
The project includes a further evolution of the wifi.italia.it app to allow citizens to enjoy the services offered more easily. The Ministry of Economic Development, through an agreement, entrusted Infratel Italia SpA to the implementation of the installation activities of Wi-Fi access points, the provision of maintenance services and the strengthening of any physical and technological infrastructures that may exist.
It is the Municipality of Gragnano, Campania, the last administration has asked to join the project.
