The WiFi.Italia.it federated network expands. The national and international tourism that chooses non-hotel accommodation facilities and the Italian port system will henceforth be APP-proof, relying on a single access system to the national wi-fi network, WiFi.Italia.it, and thus taking advantage of the services that will be offered gradually.
The announcement of the signing of two protocols signed with the president of Property Managers Italy, Stefano Bettanin, and with the president of Assoporti, Zeno D'Agostino, was given by the Undersecretary of State of the Ministry of Economic Development with responsibility for Telecommunications, Antonello Giacomelli, today in Brussels on the occasion of the signature with the director of DG Connect Roberto Violadi of an administrative arrangement for the collaboration between WiFi.Italia.it and the European projectWIFi4EU in the presence of the European Commissioner for Digital Economy Mariya Gabriel.
"I am particularly proud - said Undersecretary Giacomelli - of the signing of the agreement between WiFi4EU and Wi.fi.Italia.it in the belief that the Italian experience could constitute a best practice in Europe. We are the first among European countries to have started the construction of a national federated network in July with the launch of an APP that already allows citizens and tourists, Italians and foreigners, to connect for free and enjoy ecosystem tourism content and services ''. In underlining the importance of extending the Italian federated network, Giacomelli explained how "digital services and tourism are a challenge for Italy, to be won together, to be a global player. WiFi.Italia.it was born precisely to increase the tourist offer through not only a free wi-fi network but also the services that in the future can be offered through the APP: from the purchase of a ticket for a museum to the food and wine itineraries of a specific territory. The protocols signed today with Property Managers Italia and Assoporti will allow us to offer an important business card of Italy and of the single territorial realities to the tourists who will visit our country ”.
"We welcomed the initiative of Mise regarding WiFi.Italia.it - commented after the signing the president of Assoporti Zeno D'Agostino - By signing the agreement, Italian ports will take a further step forward in the field of innovation , making available the Wi-Fi connection in the areas of their competence ”.
For the president of Property Managers Italy, Stefano Bettanin, “innovation is one of our flagships and for this we are the first national association to have immediately accepted the challenge of the Mise with great enthusiasm. We manage more than 25 thousand properties spread across the country and we know that the ambition of travellers is now to live authentic experiences and not just packages; for this reason everything that allows you to immerse yourself in the culture and traditions of the place, like a free and national WiFi network that conveys valuable content, is a service that will make tourism fly, making Italy a best practice at European and global level ".
Assoporti, the association that represents 54 national ports including the major seaports administered by the port system authorities, and PM Italia, the association that represents residential hospitality entrepreneurs, are committed to encouraging the integration of their networks wi-fi in the ports and in the accommodation facilities with the national WiFi.Italia.it network, the government project - promoted by Mise, Mibact and AgID - which provides tourists and citizens with a single way to access the automatic network and valid forever without having to re-register or type awkward passwords at every access. In particular, protocols foresee the diffusion of interoperable wireless ecosystems able to accompany the user on their journey towards destinations of tourist and cultural interest, in addition to the collaboration for the study of services and on joint projects for the enhancement of physical infrastructures and technology.
