The Anci is committed to promoting the adherence of the municipalities with their local networks to the government project.

A leading role played by the municipalities for the expansion of WiFi ° Italia ° it, the federations of WiFi networks already existing of public administrations and private individuals who want to participate officially presented three weeks ago. The Anci undertakes to promote the adhesion of the municipalities with their local networks to the government project - promoted by Mise, Mibact and AgID - which provides tourists and citizens with a single method of accessing the automatic network free of charge through an App. valid forever without having to re-register or type annoying passwords at every access.

The protocol was signed today by the president of the Anci, Antonio Decaro and the undersecretary of state of the Ministry of Economic Development with responsibility for Telecommunications Antonello Giacomelli. Started July 13 with some pilot projects in Rome, Milan, Florence, Prato, Bari in the province of Trento and in the Polesine area, as well as in the regions of Tuscany and Emilia Romagna, to which recently Sicily was added, WiFi ° Italy ° it has aroused great interest both in terms of users who have installed the App on their mobile devices, and in the associations of tourism-related businesses that have expressed an interest in the project and are willing to join them.

"The realization of WiFi ° Italia ° it can go as fast as we can do system operations - said Undersecretary Giacomelli - Just as there was sharing with Regions and municipalities on the connectivity front in the ultra-broadband plan, even on issues like the digital one, united with culture, the protocol between Mise and Anci will allow to reach important results on infrastructures and services for tourism. WiFi ° Italia ° it will be the demonstration that we are stronger if we work together, if everyone collaborates with his network rather than go in random order ".

"The ANCI strongly believes in this initiative - explained the President Decaro - Because, we know very well we mayors that we have been working for a long time in this sense, the web is an open window on the world. The Internet is a guarantee of freedom of expression and thought. Being able to surf for free should be a universal right such as studying, home and work ".

With the aim of promoting, among other things, the growth of tourism by facilitating access to the internet and digital services in the main tourist and cultural locations both through existing infrastructures and through the provision of new Wifi free access points, Anci and Mise undertake to promote the inclusion in the national federated system of WiFi ° Italy ° it of territorial networks managed by the municipalities. In particular, through the centralized management, the WiFi Italy ° it network will not only guarantee free access but will also create a federated data collection, analysis and processing system to stimulate public and private services, information and devices.

Collaboration is also envisaged on joint projects for the enhancement of physical and technological infrastructures, also through the use of resources made available by community and cultural funding programs.
