Consvipo and Polesine TLC participate in the experimentation of the new Italian WiFi service for digital tourism: a single authentication to browse anywhere in the whole national territory.

The Polesana public wifi network “POLESINE FREE WIFI”, www.polesinefreewifi.it, created by Consvipo with the Veneto Free WiFi regional project and managed by Polesine TLC on behalf of 26 member municipalities, is among the networks that have participated immediately in the testing of the new national service developed following the Memorandum of Understanding, signed last year by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage (Mibact) and the Ministry of Economic Development (MiSE), aimed at using the ultra-broadband to link the sites together tourist and cultural points of interest on the national territory through a widespread and federated WiFi network.

Angelo Zanellato, President of Consvipo and Sole Administrator of Polesine TLC highlights that: "The new service debuted on Thursday 13 July 2017, the day from which it is possible to download the WiFi.Italia.it APP with which, by registering a only once, you can access the participating networks, such as Polesine Free WiFi, the only one in the Veneto, or those of Rome, Milan, Florence, Prato, Trento and the Emilia Romagna and Tuscany regions. As soon as the experimentation has ended, it will also be possible to join the other public networks present in what will become a single national network. "

Today, Polesine Free WiFi counts about 170 active points in the Province of Rovigo, 13,700 registered users, over 1,000 daily accesses and over 120 GB of traffic exchanged daily. Squares, parks, ports, libraries, gardens, cultural and tourist sites, meeting centers are covered.

Zanellato states that Consvipo and Polesine TLC have decided to participate in the testing of the new ITALY WIFI service because the future of the public wifi service in Polesine depends on:

  • to simplify as much as possible the access to the network both by Italian and foreign users, in compliance with the law and safety;

  • standardize access to that of other major public wifi networks

  • develop new perspectives in terms of services that can be provided through this important tool that enhance the excellence of our territory;

  • interconnect the points present with the public networks that will be developed with the Ultra Wide Band project, to improve the performance of the service and make it more sustainable for the individual municipalities;

  • extend the coverage of the service, taking the opportunities that will be made available by the next European project "WiFi4EU" in areas not yet reached by the networks.
