We publish the speech by Antonio Vella, Mayor of Monteverde, in Campania, where the free hotspots have been activated and in addition to the Municipalities that have joined the WiFi Italia Project.
“The toponym Montis Viridis refers to the green of the woods that surrounded the mountain on which the castle was built. The earliest evidence dates back to pre-Roman times, then in 897, a parchment in Lombard script certifies the presence on Mount Serro of the military fortress "castrum Montis Viridis". In 1059, the village passed to the Normans with the investiture of Robert the Guiscard of the title of Duke of Puglia, Calabria and Sicily by Pope Nicholas II.
The village is renowned for pork sausages, such as soppressata, sausage and capocollo, and for dairy products from wild cattle, such as caciocavallo, scamorza, ricotta, fresh and aged cheese. Barley and craft beer are also produced there. The visitor can enjoy nature by practicing horse riding, trekking or even walks along the Ofanto valley. Precisely to enhance our typical features and to give an extra service to citizens and tourists, we joined the Wifi Italia project, to be part of a national and free public network ".
