Municipality of Pollutri

We publish the speech by Nicola Mario Di Carlo, Mayor of Pollutri, in Abruzzo, where the free hotspots have been activated and in addition to the Municipalities that have joined the WiFi Italia Project.

"Historians trace the birth of Pollutri back to the year 568 AD. when the Lombards, under the leadership of King Albano, came down to Italy in search of new sources of livelihood and with a rapid war campaign they occupied the north of Italy, and then Tuscany, Abruzzo, Molise, Campania and Basilicata.

At that time the hill on which Pollutri stood was covered with dense woods and there were only a few shepherds 'and farmers' huts. The Lombards, as soon as they arrived, did everything they could to integrate with the indigenous population; the village grew so much that already in 580 it had a lot of importance and its territory reached the sea, while it was delimited, inside, by the Sinello and Osento rivers. The name of Pollutri derives from a temple dedicated to Pollux.

Pollutri hosts the Bosco di Don Venanzio Nature Reserve, established in 1999. It includes an area of approximately 78 hectares 5 km from the Adriatic Sea; it is one of the last plain woods on the Adriatic coast. It is spread over a series of river terraces overlooking the Sinello river. From the internal avenue, equipped paths branch off that allow you to enter the woods and reach suggestive corners.

Pollutresi wine production is important and renowned, especially Montepulciano d'Abruzzo doc and Pecorino igt. Among the gastronomic products stand out the 'ndroccioloni, typical homemade pasta, ventricina, porchetta, tarallucci and bocconotti. During the year there are numerous food and wine events, which attract many visitors to the village.

Patron saint is S. Nicola, which is celebrated twice a year: on December 6 and the first Sunday in May. On the evening of December 5th, the beans are cooked in the square in front of the Church of SS. Salvatore, while the traditional "taralli throwing" takes place on the Friday before the first Sunday in May.

Precisely to provide new possibilities and services to citizens, our administration has given the green light to the installation of 4 hotspots of the Piazza Wifi Italia Project, promoted by the Ministry of Economic Development and implemented by Infratel Italia. "
