WiFi.Italia.it, Sicily third region to join the project. Memorandum of understanding signed Mise-Regione Sicilia

The Sicily Region adheres to the government project that provides tourists and citizens with a single way to access the network free of charge through an App.

A few days after the official launch of WiFi ° Italia ° it, the federation of already existing WiFi networks of public administrations and private individuals who want to participate, the Sicily Region adheres to the government project that provides tourists and citizens with an app for free through an App unique method of accessing the network, automatic and valid forever without having to re-register or type awkward passwords at every access.

After Tuscany and Emilia Romagna, Sicily is the third region in order of time to join WiFi ° Italia ° it with the signing of the agreement between the Region and the Ministry of Economic Development. The protocol was signed by the Councillor for the Economy of the Sicily Region, Alessandro Baccei, and by the Undersecretary of State of the Ministry of Economic Development with responsibility for Telecommunications, Antonello Giacomelli. Started July 13 with some pilot projects in Rome, Milan, Florence, Prato, Bari in the province of Trento and in the Polesine, WiFi ° Italia ° it has received a strong interest: in the first week more than 50 thousand people installed the App on their mobile devices. There have been numerous expressions of interest from public administrations and private individuals so far.

With the aim of promoting, among other things, the growth of Sicilian tourism by facilitating access to the Internet and digital services in the main tourist and cultural locations both through existing infrastructures and through the provision of new free Wifi access points, Sicily Region and Mise undertake to include the Sicilian territory in the national federated WiFi ° Italia ° it system with the spread of interoperable wireless ecosystems capable of accompanying the user through connectivity in tourist and cultural destinations. Collaboration is also envisaged on joint projects for the enhancement of physical and technological infrastructures, also through the use of resources made available by community and cultural funding programs.

The project - which started from the agreement in July 2016 between Mise, Mibact and the Agency for digital Italy - allows online access to the artistic, natural, cultural and receptive heritage through a single authentication through the diffusion of intelligent platforms at the service of tourists, but also of citizens, on the national territory.
