Trentino will be a single, large digital square, from which to access the Internet and future generation services via wifi.
Thanks to the agreement between the Autonomous Province of Trento and the Ministry of Economic Development (Mise), another 700 points will be added to the current 900 access points of the Trentino WiFi network in the coming months, guaranteed by the implementation of the "Piazza WiFi Italia" project on provincial territory. The project sees the participation of Infratel Italia and Trentino Digitale. Access to the new network will be possible by downloading the WiFi Italia app for free from the national portal Wifi.Italia.it. Outdoor navigation will be possible in squares, towns and areas where social life is greater. The goal - as pointed out by the speakers of today's streaming conference, organized in collaboration with the Consortium of Municipalities - is to make it possible for an increasing number of users to access the internet from different places in the province.
"In recent weeks - underlined in his speech the provincial councilor for economic development, research and work, Achille Spinelli - we have updated the mayors on the diffusion and development of optical fiber in Trentino. Today we present the implementation of the wifi network, facilitated access to navigation and connectivity for Trentino citizens and the hundreds of thousands of tourists who visit our destinations every year. The Autonomous Province of Trento therefore confirms its commitment to digitization of the territory, the primary objective of the current council and an essential condition for ensuring development and equal access to a fast and stable connection for families, young people and businesses ".
In detail, the agreement provides for the supply, installation, configuration and management of the new 700 wireless access points by Infratel Italia in the municipalities that have joined the initiative, using the provincial fiber optic network. Thanks to the “Piazza WiFi Italia” project, it will thus be possible to extend the coverage of the Trentino WiFi signal in areas not yet covered by the WiFi access service. To date, 119 municipal administrations have joined but others are announced.
Where technically possible, the dissemination of the wifi.italia.it service will also take place on the radio infrastructure of the current Trentino WiFi network, by Trentino Digitale. The new mapping will enhance WiFi coverage also in areas of particular tourist interest and in areas where events of primary interest for Trentino are planned.
Accessing the wifi network will be simple and free. Once the WiFi Italia App has been downloaded, the user must register, or log in with Spid credentials. Once login is complete, the same user will be able to browse the wifi network in Trentino and access the wifi.italia.it network distributed throughout the country. The available access points will be viewable within the App map. The connection to the network will take place in automatic mode, without the need to authenticate again after the first registration.
"Piazza WiFi Italia" is the project of the Ministry of Economic Development whose main objective is to allow citizens and tourists, Italians and foreigners, to connect for free and easily to a free and widespread wifi network throughout the country, by downloading the WiFi Italia APP from the national portal.
"Trentino Digitale - said the director general of Trentino Digitale, Kussai Shahin - is committed, with its technical skills, to the design and implementation of the necessary interventions to ensure the implementation of the strategies and initiatives of the Province, in collaboration with all the actors .
