We publish the speech by Walter Gruber, Mayor of Meltina, in Trentino Alto Adige, where the free hotspots have been activated and in addition to the Municipalities that have joined the WiFi Italia Project.
“For Meltina it is vital to make the most of the area, which is why we joined the Wifi Italia project, a public network that is an opportunity for citizens and tourists to take advantage of the services and beauties offered by our valley.
Meltina has a very important history. Not only does it reach up to the Middle Ages, as documented by various historical writings; but numerous archaeological discoveries show that our territory was already populated more than 4 thousand years ago. The first chronologically demonstrable people were the Celts; farms and landscapes with Celtic names still exist today, such as Perlifl, Znol, etc.! For example Lafenn is Celtic and means wide, large fields.
Archaeological excavations in a field at the farm "Lahnbauern" and in St. Georgen have unearthed numerous brass objects that testify to an ancient civilization.
The first historically proven name dates back to the distant year 590 AD, in which the Lombard fortress "Maletum" was destroyed by the Franken and the inhabitants were captured and taken away. There is a letter from Bishop Paschasinus of Sicily to the Pope in 417 AD, in which a baptismal miracle was mentioned in "Melitas".
Our history, like the riches of our territory, are very important resources that our administration intends to preserve to the maximum”.
