Municipality of Condrò

The following speech is by Giuseppe Pietro Catanese, Mayor of Condrò, in Sicily, where the free hotspots have been activated and in addition to the Municipalities that have joined the WiFi Italia Project.

“On behalf of the whole community, which I have the honor to represent, I want to thank Infratel Italia and the Ministry of Economic Development for having implemented the“ Piazza WIFI Italia. It is well known that the digital divide is contributing decisively to the depopulation of small towns penalized by the lack of infrastructure for fast connection and the consequent impoverishment in social and cultural terms with evident repercussions also in the economic sphere.

Precisely for this reason, as soon as I took office, I decided to identify solutions aimed at guaranteeing citizens and visitors to enjoy two free WiFi network points on our territory. The "pleasure" of always staying connected has become a need during the lockdown period experienced in recent months and for this reason the "Piazza WIFI Italia" project acquires even more value for our community.

Condrò is located a few kilometers from the Gulf of Milazzo, at about 58 meters above sea level and the inhabited center rises in a valley surrounded by greenery. The toponym Condrò probably originates from the Greek "Xondros" (wheat) and it is believed that the town was founded around the century. XIV. "
