Upon hearing the news of the project of the Ministry of Economic Development for small municipalities called "Piazza Wifi Italia", as an administration we took action, presenting the candidacy for the creation of free hotspots. The hope of accepting the candidacy materialized when the agreement was signed between the Municipality of Siurgus Donigala and Infratel Italia S.p.A. The installation of the public WiFi network accessible to all faster and free, contributes to being less and less isolated and more citizens of the world, but above all to offer efficient services that improve the knowledge and promotion of the territory in all its peculiarities.
The access points were installed in the Municipal Palace, in the headquarters of the Municipal Library, in Piazza Nuraghe, in the municipal playground and in Piazza Santa Maria. Once the App has been downloaded, just follow the registration procedure by entering some personal data and once registered, it will be possible to navigate without the need to authenticate again.
Siurgus Donigala is a town of almost 2000 inhabitants, whose territory extends for 76.39 Km² is located in the geographical subregion of the upper Trexenta, is 54 Km from the capital Cagliari, has a well-preserved territory from the naturalistic point of view, offers a not homogeneous orography, from the depression of the Mulargia reservoir about 171 m asl to the Turri mountain 681 m asl, therefore from the arable areas to the areas dominated by the Mediterranean scrub in all its variants. Siurgus Donigala is one of the entrance gates to the lakes area of the Flumendosa basin with the artificial reservoir of Lake Mulargia, built since 1951 with a gravity arch dam that can contain about 350 million cubic meters of water, feeds domestic use and irrigation of most of the Campidano of Cagliari.
It is precisely the reservoir of the Mulargia that has given the territory a pleasant and usable aspect from the naturalistic and tourist point of view, in the area there are paths that can be traveled on foot and by bicycle, landing points in the water and, an excellent service of catering with the possibility of overnight. From a historical point of view, the territory is rich in archaeological evidence starting from the Neolithic period, the era to which some megalithic circles date back, to the well-represented Nuragic period, visible and open to visitors near the church of San Teodoro. Other important testimonies are the parish churches of Santa Maria and San Teodoro built in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, the churches of San Sebastiano, Santa Susanna and the deconsecrated church of San Francesco which is the seat of the Banco di Sardegna agency.
The main economy of the Municipality derives from the agricultural-pastoral sector where the presence of sheep and pigs is predominant, distinct and renowned is the quality of the meats marketed throughout the regional territory. Strength and particular tourist attraction are the various festivals and festivals: Summer Carnival, with the local mask of the Scruzzones, the “de s'ungungia” festival, the feast of San Teodoro, Santa Maria, Santa Susanna, Sant'Antonio and San Sebastiano. Another event that annually promotes the area is Saboris Antigus which takes place between November and December and represents an important appointment to learn about the traditions still in vogue.
