Infratel Italia - TIM: free and free WiFi in all Italian municipalities

TIM has been awarded the tender that extends the creation of WiFi connections to the approximately 8,000 municipalities targeted by the Piazza WiFi Italia project WiFi.Italia.it App allows citizens and tourists to connect to the public network that will be progressively spread over the entire national territory

TIM and Infratel Italia have signed an agreement that will allow citizens and tourists to have free and easy access to the WiFi connections available in the Italian municipalities that will join the Piazza WiFi Italia project. Born on the initiative of the Ministry of Economic Development and entrusted to Infratel Italia, the project aims to make available a free and widespread WiFi network throughout the national territory and provides for the creation of WiFi connections, free of charge, in one or more squares than the approximately 8,000 municipalities targeted by the initiative.

In particular, TIM has been awarded the tender launched by Infratel Italia for the creation of WiFi connections in over 5,500 Italian municipalities with more than 2,000 inhabitants, with the aim of integrating and expanding the existing project for around 2,500 municipalities up to 2,000 inhabitants , also managed by TIM, within the Consip LAN agreement.

In a tender context that saw the presence of numerous players in the sector, TIM's proposal was the best both from a technical and an economic point of view, qualifying first in the 5 lots into which the whole was divided National territory. The total value of the project is around 33 million euros. The agreement provides for the supply and installation of access points and management and control systems, the supervision services of the installed devices and the maintenance of the devices intended for the dissemination of multimedia content on the IP-Content Delivery Network platforms.

Thanks to this initiative, citizens and tourists, Italian and foreign, can connect for free to individual WiFi networks by downloading the WiFi.Italia.it App available for Android and IOS which offers a single and simple access system to the networks present on the national federated territory with Piazza WiFi Italia.

Joining the project requires the municipal administrations to sign a special agreement with Infratel Italia, directly online on the wifi.italia.it website, section  How to join.

The initiative represents an important tool to encourage the use of digital services and confirms the commitment of TIM and Infratel Italia in promoting access to new technologies by an increasingly large pool of citizens, institutions and businesses.
