Municipality of Collarmele

We are publishing the speech by Antonio Mostacci, first citizen of Collarmele, in Abruzzo, that has decided to join the "Piazza WiFi Italy" and where the free hotspots are activated.

Our Administration, always sensitive to the enhancement and modernization of the territory, has joined the opportunity offered by Infratel Italia with the Project of the Ministry of Economic Development "Piazza Wifi Italia" to allow residents and people who visit our municipality, to have an efficient connection. We have placed 2 hot spots in the Day Social Center for the elderly, one of which will be placed in the Municipal House as soon as the safety work is completed.

Collarmele is located on the outskirts of the Sirente Velino Regional Park, halfway between the Majella Park, the Monte Salviano Nature Reserve and the Abruzzo National Park, Lazio and Molise, it is located in a strategic area of great landscape interest for nature lovers and hiking. The village is adjacent to the Sirente Velino Regional Park, a territory full of historical, archaeological and cultural finds, immersed in Apennine scenarios of great value, a true paradise for hikers, thanks to its dense network of trails and its mountainous landscapes that give unforgettable emotions, in every season of the year. Its origins are shrouded in an aura of mystery, perhaps the most peculiar compared to all the other countries of Marsica, precisely because of the amount of legends and stories about its past.

The story of Collarmele begins in the ancient village of Cerfennia, in ancient Marsica. Born as "oppidum", a fortified town, it stood on the Via Valeria, one of the main arteries of communication, where today's Collarmele stands. The second town from which today's village derives was called Collis Armelis, founded by the survivors of old Cerfennia, destroyed either by natural causes or by invading peoples.

In 1915 Collarmele, like all the other villages of Marsica, was hard hit by the earthquake, which completely destroyed the old part of the country. Between 1915 and 1925 the reconstruction works began, which inevitably saw a modernization of all the houses and structures. Collarmele presents a multiplicity of attractions, both culturally and historically, as well as from a landscape point of view.

Collarmele presents a multiplicity of attractions, both culturally and historically, as well as from a landscape point of view. One of the most well-known symbols of the village is the Norman Tower, built during the 13th century, still perfectly preserved today, the tower is slender with its 18 meters high, presenting slits all over the surface. There is a strong testimony of the religious faith that has always characterized the community of this village, represented perfectly by the Shrine of Our Lady of Grace located in the north of the country along the Regio Tratturo Celano-Foggia. Characteristic of the sixteenth-century facade with the fine polychrome majolicas that line the top. In two niches there are statues of St. Peter and St Paul. Inside there is a painting of Our Lady of Graces from 1570 and the coats of arms of the Piccolomini dating back to 1561 and that of the village bearing the inscription "Collis Armelis".

The Church of Santa Felicita is the parish of the village, built after the earthquake of 1915, which destroyed the ancient parish church of collarmele. This was created at the behest of the parish priest Don Gaetano Del Grosso and opened to the faithful in 1940. Angelini is the architect designer of the new Church and the architectural style he follows, as it turns out and emerges from the construction structure, is the same that is found essentially identical, in the new churches of many other countries of Marsica, after the earthquake of 1915. In the two main entrances of the country you can admire Le Porte, located one in the east and one in the west, are sculptures made of stone with a flock of larks that take flight and two plaques on a marble beam; next to the title "Between heaven and earth", the inscription "CollisArmelis" name given by the God Marzia and Cerfennia. Made by the Arch. A.Cicero in 2016.

The Collarmele Wind Farm is a wind power plant located in the municipality of Collarmele, on the border between the Sirente -Velino Regional Park and the Fucino Plain. Built in 1998 and 2006-2009, it underwent some refurbishment work, with the installation of 13 latest generation generators of 2 MW each and 5 of 1.5 MW, capable of producing 72,000 MWh annually, equivalent to the consumption of 50,000 households. The wind farm, one of the most important in Italy, allows the Marsican Municipality to guarantee citizens essential services and to carry out public works thanks to the revenues from the production of "clean energy"
